Valuing Time As We Age

  1. Even though I’m only 17, I’ve noticed that time seems to go by sooo much faster. I truly value time because today an hour can seem like no time at all but when I was 7, twenty minutes felt like an agonizing wait. I think a part of it is the fact that when you’re a child, adulthood is this romanticized fantasy that consists of independence and respect. This usually means that kids are excited to grow up, which makes time feels more long and drawn out. However, once you near or reach adulthood, you realize the responsibilities that come with said respect and independence; this can sometimes make you feel like your life is passing by really fast.

Also, as I’ve gotten older, I’ve realized how small the amount of time we get on Earth is. I’m more aware of the fact that at any moment I could succumb to illness or some freak accident and that my time would be drastically shorter. Realizing this has made me value my time so much more, especially with family and friends. As you get older you also realize that you need to devote time to yourself and your happiness more.
