A Supportive Community

HappinessGlobal Beat

In the world we live in, it’s completely normal to feel down due to things that we experience or are exposed to. People may feel down due to various reasons such as their report cards not having enough A’s, their SAT score not being good enough, or the number on the weight scale not meeting society’s standards and expectations. Therefore, it is easy to feel we’re not good enough. However, the most important thing is how we get back on our feet and fight against these factors rather than letting them affect us.

It is essential to keep in mind that people can not feel good unless and until their community provides them with support. The best part about my community is that it never hesitates to offer support; the members of the community are like a united family. One of the ways in which they provide support and encouragement is by communicating with a person who’s depressed. They believe that communication and interaction are significant factors in leading a healthy lifestyle. By socially interacting with someone who is feeling down, they have a chance to hear about that person’s problems and provide useful advice and recommendations. This way the individual also feels lighter by getting worries and emotions out.

Although the Pakistani community is conservative, most of the population in urban areas still believes in seeking help when it comes to feeling down. The person who’s upset might not agree to visit a counselor but the community members make sure to seek one if the problem is really serious. The educated Pakistanis understand the importance of receiving assistance and that is why they try their best to convince the upset person to seek help.

One of the best parts about those in my community is that regardless of their socioeconomic backgrounds they try their best to offer support to people who are feeling unhappy. Those whose friends or family can’t afford to seek help make other sorts of efforts to make the person feel better. These efforts consist of making the affected person’s favorite food with utmost care and devotion and visiting them daily to offer hugs and kisses. Those who are religious advise the unhappy person to read several verses from The Holy Book, or they visit several temples and mosques in order to pray for the unhappy person. They may also take the sad person along if he or she is willing to go.

Therefore I can say that there are several ways my community provides support to a person who’s feeling down. Although each way is different, the factor that makes them similar is that they all have good intentions behind them and everyone’s efforts are filled with intense love and care.
