A World Driven by AI

How has your community responded to the recent developments in AI? The past few decades have seen a rapid increase in the development of AI, and it has slowly but surely infiltrated our communities. Communities help shape humans as individuals and have a great impact on the way one responds to changes.

A single individual can be part of a wide array of communities. For instance, at a personal level, not only am I a part of the Pakistani community, but, as a student, I also resonate with Pakistan’s youth and academic sphere. AI has led to a paradigm shift in the way we interact with new information and how we proceed in our academic journey. The introduction of AI chatbots such as ChatGPT have truly changed student life as we knew it. Many students have used such developments as a way of cutting down on their work burden and carrying out unethical practices such as plagiarism. However, others have used this to further supplement their learning in order to produce the best work they possibly can. It truly depends on the individual and the school community they grew up in to see if they've responded to these developments in a positive way or if they see them as a shortcut.

In addition to the educational sector, there are other communities who have also been impacted by the recent developments in AI. Pakistan is highly dependent on its agricultural output as it has an agro-based economy. The conservation of water is essential if agricultural development is to proceed. For this reason, an advanced AI-based solution called Aqua Agro was created by the National Incubation Centre in Karachi. This system regulates the crop water needed and has shown efficiency of saving 50% water. The Pakistani community has used developments in AI to further improve its agricultural outputs and thereby improve its economy.

Major universities in Pakistan have also incorporated AI-based learning in their curricula, covering a wide range of topics such as deep machine learning and computer vision. This will better equip the future of Pakistan with skills that are needed in a rapidly advancing world that is driven by AI. With the myriad possibilities AI has opened, it really now depends on us humans if we use it to our advantage or let it be a precursor to our ultimate downfall.
