Born with a Sense of Connection

Connection and IsolationGlobal Beat

Connection: a sense of inclusion might be one of the most important things to us as human beings. We literally depend on each other in order to survive. Human beings are born with a sense of connection; we exist in groups and I guess that is just a natural phenomenon. There are times when I feel disconnected and isolated from my community. Especially during this time of a global pandemic where quarantines are ubiquitous, the feeling of isolation tends to be stemming from the immense decrease in social interactions among people. Despite the feeling of isolation, or in other words, loneliness, numerous factors in my community alleviate the disruptive awareness of alienation and seclusion.

First of all, friendliness and kindness among my community are definitely the major factors that make me feel connected to my community. Companionable people in my community build up this friendly atmosphere that surrounds every single one of us. For instance, simply smiling at someone can make someone’s day. A smile or a wave brightens up my gloomy day and is indeed meaningful. Not only do small gestures or acts of friendliness positively impact someone, they somehow motivate or encourage other people to also spread positivity and kindness. Interaction between people is certainly essential to the enhancement of the feeling of connection. The showing of care and gratitude toward other people can easily lead to a sense of connection. Imagine yourself at the lowest point of your life and someone suddenly shows up. You will ultimately feel better when care is shown. This leads to a sense of connection to your community.

I personally believe that connection is not something we have to search for. It is something that exists no matter what we do. Simply thinking “since we are all humans and are related, we are connected” is enough.
