Conformity and Fulfillment

FulfillmentGlobal Beat

“Conformity is the jailer of freedom and the enemy of growth.” - John F. Kennedy.

When I was thinking of the word fulfillment, success came to my mind, and I can’t avoid thinking of the word conformity. Why? Because what would success be without fulfillment? I was observing people around me and I was very disappointed, because older and younger people are very conformist; older people apparently look satisfied and happy with their jobs, but they’re not, because they only follow a routine like a robot. They don’t find fulfillment in the better way, where they don’t have a compromise with themselves to be the best they can. That is the main reason that they cannot reach success. It’s the same with young people; they have time and energy but they don’t really care, they don’t put in enough effort to meet their goals.

Many people in my community only take material objects into account. They go to work without leaving time for what really matters, like family and friends. If you were to give a survey asking people what they think about fulfillment and if they consider themselves compliant people, they would answer yes, but after all, what is fulfillment? The dictionary defines it as “action to fulfill or be fulfilled.” Being fulfilled means you have to be committed, and not only to your boss or your work, but to yourself and your goals. Society’s vision is wrong, because too many people give more importance to the least important things. Who cares about money when you are 70 and nobody is with you? For me, success and fulfillment are equally important. They go hand in hand, because how could you reach success without having met all your goals, without discipline and without effort?
