Inspiration to Thrive

Strength and InfluenceGlobal Beat

For the sake of there not being communities per se in Haiti, I will use my school community as a guideline to write this essay. At school, anyone can be a leader, but it ultimately comes down to whether or not you’re right for the position. Personally, I don’t necessarily tend to see the good in myself, so I would never know what I’m qualified for and what I’m not. In general, a good leader is someone who can lead the class in tough times, someone who can share their voice, someone confident. But I believe there is more to it and I am pretty sure this person who inspires me thinks so, too.

There is a teacher at my school who goes by the name of Ms. Mourges. This article may be a tad biased considering she is one of my favorite people at this school, but you really can’t go wrong in getting to know her. I believe inspiration comes in many forms, and in this case, it is her pressing me to join the student government, yearbook, and more. At first I thought that it was due to the fact that she wanted me in her classes, but I know now it is much more. Unlike a majority of people, Ms. Mourges tends to realize things people don’t. She notices unhappiness, changes in moods, etc. And I would happily say that she has helped me in more ways than one, academically and just personally. She sees something in me that I can’t even see in myself. She sees someone strong, someone determined, someone willing. And to me this has most definitely helped me thrive and has even convinced me to join the student government, as well as yearbook.

Ms. Mourges, with her passion for helping people, has inspired me in more ways than she can even begin to comprehend. She has begun to take me out of my wallowing self-pity of thinking I'm not enough and molded me into one of the future leaders that I really hope I am able to become. In all honesty, without her I would have no courage and no willpower to be better and make my environment better, so with that, I am forever grateful.
