Music Creates Cohesion
Music is used as a tool to express our emotions and to convey messages from generation to generation. Music is now an invisible part of humanity which we can’t live without. No weekend passes without music being played in a community. The faith of your neighbor can even be determined by hearing the kind of music used as ringtone. This can instantly create a sense of commonness and bonding.
Music plays a crucial role in shaping and enhancing our communities in several ways. Music has been one of the key elements in preserving culture in Ghanaian society. The stories of historical cultural traditions and events are creatively weaved with the beats of drums and other instruments, which are so appealing to the ears to be passed on from generation to generation. These songs are still sung or played in our current age not just for entertainment, but also to pass on our cultural beliefs, traditions, and historical events to the younger ones. Urbanization has separated most people from the extended family, where we have older people who might have witnessed these historical events or know important details to be shared with us.
Music brings a sense of social connectivity, unity, and togetherness in our community. Music festivals and concerts, especially during festive seasons, bring a lot of people, irrespective of their backgrounds, together. The excitement experienced during these events puts away their differences, which makes them have fun together. A lot of people bond easily during such events which end with some as friends, business partners, and even spouses.
A lot of people have come to think entertainment is all about music. This is just because of how easily music elevates their mood and the excitement it brings. The most frequent way people in society entertain themselves is by organizing concerts. People are able to entertain themselves for hours by dancing to music because of its melody, rhythm, and the arrangement of sounds.
Aside from the entertainment that comes along with music concerts and festivals, there are many significant impacts that music contributes economically. Governments generate a lot of income from the music industry. Any time music concerts are organized in society, it creates opportunities for a lot of people to showcase their talent, which can either be singing or dancing. A lot of great musicians today were able to rise because of some of these opportunities.
In conclusion, music creates a feeling of cohesion that transcends boundaries. Music serves as a tool which has the ability to educate and entertain, and a gateway for expressing our emotions, which contributes to the well-being of people in the community. The undeniable power of music in preserving cultural heritage also leaves unforgettable memories in the minds of people. Music continues to be the bridge connecting people of diverse backgrounds and creating strong social bonds in the community from generation to generation.
