Our Adaptation
There's no way life asks you if you're ready for changes. The changes catch us off guard when and where they are least expected. Even good changes can be stressful if they are drastic. But when these changes are bad for us, it becomes more challenging to accept and adapt to them. Undoubtedly, it's pretty hard to go through any type of immediate change, but it's essential to learn how to be adaptable.
Adaptability is an invaluable skill that is learned in practice — when overcoming the disadvantages of changes, which are endless, and then feeling comfortable when dealing with them, finally accepting and evolving in parallel with them.
In recent years, we have been witnesses to lots of horrible disasters, and we have had to adapt to them quickly to protect ourselves. During COVID-19, countries introduced plenty of new laws and rules, and we greatly changed our way of living. As a Ukrainian, I can tell you that the war that broke out in my country has become the toughest time and adapting to it has been the hardest process.
Unfortunately, adapting during war and reorganizing all aspects of life takes time and lots of effort. Some changes in our country were enacted immediately after the war started, such as martial law, curfews, and the transition from full-time school to distance learning. But mentally, people were not ready for this at all, they needed time to recover from all these horrific events and somehow continue living. Because living during war is about getting used to fearing for your and your family's lives when you hear air alerts or explosions from outside, seeing terrible news not only on TV or on the Internet but also hearing it everywhere, and lots of other things that scare you a lot.
After acceptance, we adopted new, more long-term habits that could provide more peace and help us with mental adaptation.. All Ukrainians tried their best during the first year to stay strong and move forward against all odds, get used to new ways of doing their work or studies, find nearby shelters in no time, keep in touch with all family members, and monitor news. For us, a rescue attempt is any type of positivity, whether they are patriotic shows and content,or good news from the battlefront. To strengthen our belief and release negativity, we share our feelings and support each other while working or studying.
Predicting the future, I can say that our way of adapting can and will be successful, simply because we will never give up. Now we are stronger, better, and much safer. We can say with confidence that we will stay that way and are becoming better every day.. The whole nation has already learned how to adapt to this way of living and work cooperatively for our common future.
