The Different Parts of Me
Artwork by Tanya Estigarribia Peralta, age 17
Every poem I scribble,
When my mind is flooded with thoughts,
Makes me who I am.
Every souvenir I collect,
From the places I have been to,
Makes me who I am.
That one quote from my favorite book,
That stays with me for months,
Makes me who I am.
Watching the different phases of the moon,
And learning to embrace each phase of my life,
Makes me who I am.
All the polaroids hung up on my wall,
That remind me of the beautiful memories with my family,
Make me who I am.
Every time that I sketch out a sunset,
Waiting for summer,
Makes me who I am.
Every time I make up the lyrics of a song,
And try to shape it from my perspective,
Makes me who I am.
Every time I sing my heart out,
Every time I laugh till my eyes water,
Every time I shiver when I read about a mystery,
And every time I cry after watching a heartfelt movie,
Every time I share my outlook,
And every time I truly am myself,
Makes me who I am.
